(Frequently Asked Questions)
What Do You Think of Tongue Tie & Lip Tie?
It is not within an IBCLC's scope of practice to diagnose a tongue or lip tie. However, we are skilled at assessing for lip and tongue frenulums and their impact on Mom’s nipple comfort, and baby’s ability to move milk from the breast. We can help you find an MD skilled at diagnosing and intervening with lip and tongue tie.

What Does My Insurance Cover?
The Affordable Health Care Act states lactation services will be covered by insurance. Most insurance companies cover up to 6 visits. However, most insurance companies do not allow Lactation Consultants In-Network. We can provide a Super Bill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. We are in net-work with Aetna, and there will be no out of pocket cost for you other than a copay or co-insurance. As a courtesy to you, we are willing to bill your insurance company out of network for PPO's, but we cannot not be guaranteed payment. If we do bill the insurance company, you will still need to pay cash up front, and we will provide you a refund if the insurance company pays. In some cases, you can use your health care spending account to pay for lactation services. I recommend you check with your insurance company to inquire about your coverage. If you do not choose for me to bill your insurance, I still recommend you submit your Super Bill for reimbursement as it is part of your benefit, and this shows insurance companies these services are needed. Our pricing listed is a prompt pay discount.
How Do You Determined The Fees?
Usually research is needed to determine and initiate appropriate interventions and determine a feeding plan. I make a summary for your doctor, generate a Super Bill with appropriate coding, and give you a written plan of care. Each visit is charted and kept in a HIPAA compliant electronic medical record. This is all in addition to hours spent with you in your home. I can easily spend several more hours on a dyad before and after the visit especially the first visit.
What is your Cancellation Policy?
Appointments cancelled in less than 24 hours will not be refunded. You can
reschedule once at no cost. Appointments cancelled in more than 24 hours of
appointment will have a $25.00 cancellation fee. Again, there will be no cost to
reschedule appointment one time.
